I am currently working for Next Step Care management as a Senior Outreach Worker, my job role involves being able to supervise and support the staff team from the North West office.  

My Job involves. Attending strategy meetings, Lac Reviews, 24 hour planning meetings and other professional meetings including MAPPA. I work closely alongside other professionals such as social workers, nurses, doctors and teachers. Part of my responsibility to ensure the properties are suitable and in good condition for our young people to occupy and monitor young people’s engagement with the staff and House rules.  

As a team we all carry out weekly health and safety checks, if there is a problem i decide whether it’s for next steps maintenance man or the landlord to sort out this gets done as a matter of urgency. I also do property viewings to find suitable, affordable accommodation suitable for the young person. The property location comes from the young person or the social worker.  

I work closely with the young person making sure they have been registered with the local doctors, dentist, and opticians. I support young people to learn the skills they need to manage their own tenancy in the future, such as learning to cook a basic meal or create a shopping list and be able to budget for it,, supporting them to do food shopping. Budgeting is a priority for a young person if the young person receives there weekly allowance from next step then i make sure they have got food and toiletries in, i also check if they have got enough credit on their pre payment meters for gas and electric. 

I also assist with any CAHMS appointments or talk about any drug and alcohol misuse. I do tenancy agreements with a young person when they move in so they know what is expected from them. When a young person is approaching 18 i support them with claiming the correct benefits and support with looking for a council property if they are not able to take the property on from next step.
